Dan Spitz Biography

In the early 80's, while many bands were busy buying hair spray by the gross and buying up all the spandex they could find, a small, burgeoning underground movement was afoot.

This movement included such legends to be as Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth and of course....Anthrax. While their contemporaries in more "mainstream" heavy metal were wearing the latest in spandex excess, Anthrax stormed the stage in shorts and T-shirts. They let the music do the talking.

In the center of this revolution was guitarist/founding member Dan Spitz, who took heavy, fast, crunchy music to the next level. Dubbed "thrash metal", this blend of speed, musicianship and overall loudness spawned it's share of imitators and wannabes. While everyone else pounded out the same old riffs and generic music, Spitz and Anthrax were taking it to the next level.

The end result was: Fifteen million albums sold, four Grammy nominations, every album going platinum or gold, every video platinum or gold, every movie soundtrack platinum or gold.

Spitz and Anthrax were also responsible for the melding of heavy metal and rap when they released the million-selling album EP "I'm The Man" and even recieved sizeable MTV play with the song of the same title. They would further that by recording with the hardcore rap act Public Enemy. That collaboration would produce the platinum single "Bring The Noize".

As the years rolled on and generic bands came and went, Anthrax kept turning out great albums and embarking on sold out world tours. You couldn't go to your average highschool without seeing a couple dozen youths decked out in Anthrax T-shirts.

Their place in history as pioneers of thrash metal was cemented with the "Clash Of The Titans" tour which feature the best selling thrash bands at the time: Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth. The then unknown opening band, was Alice In Chains. The result was yet another sold out tour.

Even after all these conquests and challenges that everyone had told him can't be done, Dan stomped on, selling millions of albums worldwide gaining notoriety for music to such soundtracks as "Air Heads" with Adam Sandler, "Last Action Hero" starring Arnold Shwarzennegger and the "Beavis and Butthead" soundtrack. All gaining Platinum status.

Dan was even asked by the band Kiss to be one of the few artists to embark on a recording with both Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. This recording would feature famous bands re recording Kiss songs. The multi platinum album "Kiss my Ass" was the result with the Kiss song "She" being recorded.

After Anthrax released original lead singer Joey Belldonna and brought in former Armoured Saint vocalist Joey Bush, some questioned if Anthrax would be able to conitue on and stay relevant. With a new, fat contract from Elektra Records, the boys hit the studio and the resulting album "Sound Of White Noise" was released. All fan fears had been eased and the band embarked on yet another sold out tour, and platinum album.

After extensive touring for 15 years, Dan found himself burned out on the heavy metal music scene and went into retirement. He erased himself by changing numbers, selling houses and giving away more than 50 guitars to The Hard Rock Cafe's around the world.

Upon his retirement from the music scene, he embarked upon his next challenge: the family tradition of becoming a Master Swiss Certified Watchmaker which usually entails a ten year curriculum and a five year apprenticeship (that's if you are capable of the micro mechanics and micro electrical engineering skills necessary). Upon passing the entrance exams to the "Bulova School of Watchmaking in NY", he enrolled.

The first curriculum was a three year schooling endeavor which Dan finishes in eight and a half months, breaking a fifty three year record of the school for academic achievement. He was even given a special watchmaking desk from the school for this achievment. This accomplishment then gained him the attention of and a full scholarship to the only English speaking Swiss school of Watchmaking" "WOSTEP", of which only six students are chosen for per year from around the entire world.

Lake Nuechatel Swiss winters abound for Dan's new conquest. Goal achieved, and Dan holding Four Swiss diplomas in Watchmaking (the equivalent of four Harvard degrees in law) and One USA diploma in Watchmaking he quietly works on masterpieces for a few years for these companies, being one of the few in the USA to have a direct Rolex account for parts, along with many other brands of timepieces.

In addition to restoring the worlds finest timepieces, Dan was also asked to work in conjunction with Johnson and Johnson on brain implant devices for the Elephantisis Disease. A pressure release device placed inside the skull of a human that runs on very similiar micro mechanics as he had been trained for. He would have to have been in the operating room with the brain surgeons. Uh, Blood and Dan no way.

He was also asked by NASA to work on micro miniature timing devices. Dan decided to pass on the offer.

That brought him a phone call from Nicko McBrain, the drummer for the band "Iron Maiden" (after Dan had fixed his solid gold Rolex of course). Nicko said "I'll play with you Dan. Come on down and lets see if we can create the next level of music as you always do."

What to expect can only come from Dan's past. Boundaries are definitely broken,
new sounds a guitar can not usually make, explosive heavy riffs, melodic funked out dope sounds, none of us know how to describe what we have heard already here in the studio, but it just does not leave our heads.

Dan's mixing and engineering talents, learned from sitting next to the most famous producers/engineers and mixers in the world such as Eddie Kramer (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones), Dave Jerden (Alice in Chains), Thompson and Barbiero (Korn, Madonna) have obviously influenced what he has been able to create with this new project.

A freak for current digital technology, old school tube tank like recording studio equipment and degrees in micro engineering form the basis of a new type of monster.

The only Heavy Metal Swiss Certified Watchmaker in the World!
